Emily is ten. I battled with her request to see this movie but she doesn't really ask for stuff like this. We sold a batch of her old clothes at a consignment shop and made precisely the amount we needed to attend our local theater. When it lines up then I know it is meant to be. We have not read the book and I felt like I knew almost nothing. I was also scared it would be too violent or full of content she wasn't yet ready for.
It turned out to be one of the most amazing movies in a long time. The costumes and settings were brilliant. The messages and themes were abundant. Emotions ran high. From the first moment to the last you were on the edge of your seat...a feeling I have never known in a film. The violent scenes were done well and the movie left me with so much to think about. Needless to say, I am starting the book this week and look forward to something we can share together. I missed the Harry Potter and Twilight rounds and have looked forward to this part of the mother/daughter bonding...now we finally have one to share and look forward to!!!
